Business name generator
A starting list of names for the business you're about to start. Pick one. Buy the domain. Move on.
What this tool does
The single most common reason founders never start is that they can't decide on a name. The truth is unromantic: the name barely matters. Apple, Amazon, Tesla, and Stripe are not particularly clever names — they just got attached to good companies. Generate a list, eliminate the ones with no domain, pick something you can say out loud without flinching, and start.
How to use it
- Enter what your business does in three or four words.
- Pick a vibe — modern and abstract, descriptive and clear, friendly and warm, premium and serious.
- Generate. You'll get 10-20 names.
- Cross out the ones whose .com is taken or unaffordable.
- Say the survivors out loud. The one that doesn't make you wince is your name.
Why it matters
The name is the smallest decision in your business and the one founders agonise over the most. Generate. Filter. Pick. The faster you stop thinking about the name, the faster you can start working on the business.
Questions people actually ask.
Should I pick a descriptive name or a made-up one?
Descriptive names ('Plumbing Plus') are easy to remember but boring and hard to differentiate. Made-up names ('Stripe', 'Notion') are blank canvases — you teach the market what they mean. Pick the one whose .com is available and stop overthinking.
Do I need the .com?
Strongly preferred. Most of your customers will type it without thinking. If the .com is taken, your second-best option is a short modifier like 'getX' or 'tryX' — not a different TLD that no one will remember.
How do I know if a name is too cute?
Say it out loud to a stranger and watch their face. If they ask you to spell it twice, it's too cute. If they laugh awkwardly, it's too cute. If they say 'cool' and immediately ask what you do, you have a name.
